Are millets an answer to every health problem?

The past decade has witnessed the growth of millets . Any inflammation in the body, wheat becomes the culprit and millets become the hero.Is wheat actually bad? Yes it is bad in the present era.Green revolution not only brought an increase in wheat production but also introduced the hybrid , genetically modified variety of wheat to its consumers. The wheat which was consumed by my ancestors say my great grand parents contained very little amount of gluten but the wheat which was introduced during green revolution aimed at higher yields and it contained high quantities of gluten.Too much gluten guys ! sorry…our human bodies are not designed to digest that !So the new era started focussing on inferior crops called millets which are gluten free , contain lots of fibre, minerals and other nutrients. But my question is, are millets an answer to every health problem? As mentioned earlier , millets are inferior grains while wheat is superior one. Wheat is nourishing , they are energy providers but if we get the indigenous variety of wheat.Sonamoti,Bansi, khapli, sharbati are good say desi varieties of wheat. They have very less amount of gluten which does not cause inflammation and neither cause bloating.Millets on the other hand are dry, some are hot in potency , very fibrous in nature n doesn’t cause insulin spike.

FACT: both wheat and millets are rich in carbohydrates .

So after careful examination, I suggest my patients whether they should opt for millets or indigenous wheat. The idea is to reduce inflammation but first we need to be sure that whether it is the grain which is causing inflammation or something else?

Hopefully this article opens up many windows and spikes up an interesting conversation.
