WINTERS DIETS SHOULD BE NOURISHING !

Winter foods should be warm, nourishing and rich in healthy calories.No wonder why our grandmothers provided us with homemade jaggery and flaxseed ladoos,panjeeri,carrot halwas,chikkies and peanuts.Aim of winter diet is preserving the heat (Agni) of our body so that we can combat cold.Seasonal vegetable soups, grilled veggies, herbal teas, golden milk are important for maintaining thermal homeostasis of our body.Spices like cinnamon, pepper,cardamom,clove,turmeric are recommended in this season.Our modern diets emphasise on nutritive value of foods , Ayurveda aims at preserving the functions of body through right food in right season.This concept is called ritucharya.According to Ayurveda , ghee is a must for winter regime ,its a fuel to our agni.Drinking lukewarm water is beneficial in winters.Desi Khand,jaggery and dates are good sources of sweet.Light to moderate exercise is also recommended in this season for blood circulation.We should opt for 15 min sun exposure, head and body massages, warm water baths.Follow the baths with body moisturiser or some oils.Being fit is more important than being skinny or too thin.
